JEDDAH: The Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) opened its 9th Season for Friday Morning Division last Friday at Saudi Champions Academy court on Television Street on the outskirts of Jeddah.
To underline that the morning league has become increasingly popular among basketball-loving OFWS, new teams continued to join OFBL including Holiday Inn and Tropang Taken who both played their first game against each other in the 5’11 & Below Division Non Rated.
The Tropang Taken pounced on the slow start by Holiday Inn – Reborn Team to hammer out a decisive 59-44 victory.
Defending champion Solid North battled a young Subwat team and came out at the short end of a 94-75 verdict.
Both teams enjoyed a very good scoring start. Subway was in control the whole game as it spoiled the opeing game to the Solid North’s title defense.
Friday Morning– Season 9 has two categories namely the 5’11 and Below and Open No-Height Limit Non-Rated.
Teams that paraded during Friday’s opening were category defending champions Yummy Yummy and Repapipz, OFW Gilas, Jeddah Lions, Jeddah Graphics, MMI Team, Musaadi, Holiday Inn – Reborn, Tropang Taken, Subway Team, LJPS SETI Team, Toyota, Juffali and Solid North.
In the Evening Division, Rabea Tea scuttled P.S.I. Team 78-66.
The victory gave Rabea Tea an even 3-3 card while PSI went down to its fourth loss in six games.
In the other game, FedEx boosted its stock as a heavy title favorite by winning its sixth straight at the expense of Halwani Team 84-71.
Also, OFBL hosted the championship game in the Kapatiran Inter Color Basketball League where the Al Salamah 2-Central Team won the title by beating an equally strong KAAU team. Jhony Bajas was the main man in Alsalamah 2- Central’s victory.
